Did you know that the average woman uses 168 chemicals in their personal care every day and up to 60% of what we put on our skin gets absorbed into our bloodstream? Katie Bogue Miller and Justine Lassoff, founders of Love Goodly, decided this was not acceptable and they were going to do something about it. As moms and heads of their household, they wanted to use products that are safer at a reasonable price. Products that are better for the planet. hence Love Goodly, bimonthly subscription boxes so you can discover nontoxic beauty, eco lifestyle and wellness products at a great price. The brands they carry are cruelty-free, organic, non-gmo, eco-friendly and vegan. With each purchase, they give 5% back to a cause.
Tell us a little about your company and your philosophy.
We started LOVE GOODLY to help women discover healthier products through eco, nontoxic and cruelty free subscription boxes. Each deluxe box includes a mix of mostly full-size nontoxic beauty and skincare, eco home and style accessories, healthy snacks and wellness products. Since the retail price of the items in each box is over two times the price, you also get amazing value. Women can also shop their favorites in the LOVE GOODLY e-commerce shop. Every purchase always supports one of our cause partners Farm Sanctuary and Cure Cervical Cancer, so you are always giving back when you shop or subscribe.
What made you want to start LOVE GOODLY and incorporate all of your VALUES/Causes?
Both of us are passionate about introducing healthier, more eco-friendly brands without compromising quality or style. We’re both moms and heads of our households, and want to use products that are safe no only for ourselves but also for our families and our environment. The average woman uses 168 chemicals in their personal care every day and up to 60% of what we put on our skin gets absorbed into our bloodstream. We are also focused on compassionate living, so all products are always cruelty free, with no animals harmed (vegan). By introducing up and coming brands whose mission and ethos aligns with ours, we can make a difference to help women vote with their wallet.
What is it about LA that benefits your business or initiative most?
Los Angeles has an amazing community of women focused on healthier living and the values that we support. Our largest audience is definitely in Southern California! In addition we are based in an inspiring historic 1920’s old paper factory in the arts district of downtown LA in a creative loft. We are able to work with smart interns and talent from FIDM and USC, local collages.
Tell us a little about yourself. Are you an LA native? Where did you grow up? How did you end up in LA?
(Justine) As an LA native, I actually grew up in Europe from ages one to ten, then returning to Corona del Mar in Orange County. I moved to Northern California to go to college (Stanford) then moved back to Southern California. I was attracted to the tech and video game industry in Los Angeles, eventually working at a venture-based idealab! Company in based in Pasadena. And I met my husband around that time who lives in LA. Both of my parents grew up in LA too!
(Katie) Growing up in Denver, CO, a city at the base of the Rocky Mountains, I am both outdoorsy with a love for city life at the same time. I moved to LA after college to go to fashion school (FIDM) and LA has great activities such as hiking and beach city as well it has been a great place to explore my passions of fashion/ beauty and ecommerce.
What your favorite local spot to meet up with friends? Would you consider it “Best of LA?
We both love Zinc Café on Matteo, that we can walk to from our office, for its fresh lemonade and vegan Thai salad. We love Zinque Café on Melrose for it’s “Parisian chic” inspired patio, healthy lunches and wine by the glass.
What is you go to weekend activity with the kids? Would you consider it “Best of LA?
(Justine) It’s hard to pick just one weekend activity! My son who is almost 10 loves going to the movies with our family at AMC 7 Broadway in Santa Monica with its reclining chairs. Other favorite outings include Go Karting, bike rides and Dave & Busters!
(Katie) Taking my 2.5 year old on the train from Pasadena to Union station is always a favorite of his. Grand Park downtown is great too. We love Golden Road Brewing– a perfect mix of lawn games for kids and of course adult stuff!
