This past Sunday more than 2,500 guests and 40 of television and film’s biggest celebrities came to show their support and celebrate the 15th Annual Mattel Party on the Pier on October 5th, at the world-famous Santa Monica Pier. Sarah Michelle Gellar hosted the star-studded event which supported Mattel Children’s Hospital UCLA.
We’ve been at the event every year for the past 4 years and it’s always an incredibly fun day of riding rides and playing games all in the name of helping children get healthy! What better way to raise money for a great cause than celebrating kids at a fun-filled “party” that brings the best of what kids love together in one place? Its was so great to see kids of all ages and backgrounds, and even some of Mattel Children’s Hospital’s patients at the event, laughing and living it up.
They really improved the event this year by moving the main check-in to the parking lot near the rear entrance. Another bonus was that all the stars who were there to sign autographs were in the same tent with the auction items, so that everyone was in the shade and it was much easier to manage the process. So who was there? It was a serious who’s who including Mark-Paul Gosselaar (“Franklin & Bash”), who posed for pictures and played mini-hoops basketball with fans; the cast of the hit Disney series, “Girl Meets World,” including Rowan Blanchard, Sabrina Carpenter, Corey Fogelmanis, Peyton Meyer, and August Maturo, who signed autographs and posed for photos; and Nolan Gould and Rico Rodriguez (“Modern Family”) were also on hand to show their support for the charity event by playing games like Ring Toss and Basketball, with fans of their ABC hit-series. In addition, former Dodgers players Al Downing, Ken Landreaux, Mickey Hatcher and Shawn Green also signed autographs and played games while accepting well-wishes for the team’s success in the NLDS.
Net proceeds from ticket sales and monies raised from the silent auction benefit Mattel Children’s Hospital UCLA. For the past 15 years, Mattel Party on the Pier has provided unrestricted funding to launch high-priority programs and support innovative research discoveries that benefit children being treated at UCLA and around the world. Recent support has been directed to inflammatory bowel disease (IBD) and gene-therapy programs, research on autism-related epilepsy and treatments to improve immune function for children who have undergone chemotherapy and bone-marrow transplants.
