Barbi Appelquist is a former California State Senate Candidate for Senate District 26, and is active in local and regional political organizations to increase the number of women running for office, including EmergeCA and the National Women’s Political Caucus. Professionally, she has extensive experience in legal analysis, business development, and community organizing. She has worked as a technology consultant with PricewaterhouseCoopers, a corporate lawyer with Glaser Weil & Shapiro, and as a nonprofit and community development lawyer with Public Counsel. She is also a two-time cancer survivor and a vocal supporter of the Affordable Care Act. In her spare time, Barbi trains for half-marathons while raising funds for various cancer-related charities, including the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society, Stand Up 2 Cancer, Camp Kesem, and LA Loves Alex’s Lemonade Stand. She serves on the Geena Davis Institute on Gender in Media Advisory Council and is an active voice in the community advocating on behalf of women and girls everywhere.

Stephanie Abrams is a former CBS reporter and anchor in local and national broadcasts, with 18 years experience in broadcast journalism. Her most recent television news work was at CBS in Los Angeles where she became known for her on-the-scene work in breaking news situations and for her feature and exclusive stories. Following her work in television Abrams spearheaded the first social media outreach and team development for the Los Angeles Unified School District. As the second largest school district in the country she was responsible for communicating district news to 65,000 employees and nearly one million students and their families. She became known for bridging the gap between hundreds of offices and stakeholders within the LAUSD by building and training a team across the District committed to transparency and engagement through various social media sites. She also developed a weekly news update broadcast on YouTube and PBS called @LASchools. Abrams now runs her own PR firm sharing inspiring stories she finds within the Los Angeles area. She seeks out corporations with a calling to serve the community, and has a dedicated division for charities and nonprofits. She calls it Give Back PR because after so many years covering hard and breaking news, this is her way of giving back more positive news to the media and community. Dr. Cigal Shaham was born and raised in Los Angeles, California. She has a wonderful, supportive husband and amazing son, who teaches her something new every day. She is certified by the American Board of Pediatrics and currently works as a pediatrician at Roxbury Pediatrics in Beverly Hills. Dr. Shaham received her B.A. in IDS Environmental Science from the University of California at Berkeley. She received her Master’s degree in Regulatory Science from the University of Southern California School of Pharmacy. She worked at Children’s Hospital Los Angeles before obtaining her M.D. from the Ben-Gurion University Medical School for International Health in Collaboration with Columbia University Medical Center. Dr Shaham received the Pediatric Residency Leadership Award after completing her Residency in Pediatrics at Maria Fareri Children’s Hospital, Westchester Medical Center, New York Medical College, where she was also the American Academy of Pediatrics Delegate. In addition to seeing patients, she is active in the Los Angeles Pediatric Society, sits on the Health Advisory Board for Early Head Start, gives talks to pre-school mom groups, and blogs at www.mommedicine.blogspot.com
